Digital Camera Lenses

A camera is composed of the camera body, the viewfinder, the aperture, the shutter, the shutter release, the flash shoe, and the lens. For digital cameras there is also the LCD monitor screen and the control panel. Digital camera lenses have the same functions as non-digital camera lenses. In simple terms, the main function of a camera lens is to let light come inside the camera. Point-and-shoot cameras have fixed lenses wherein you don�t have to worry about aperture, focal length, and other technical stuff. Then there is the interchangeable lens for SLR and digital SLR cameras. Due to the fact that these two types of cameras do the same tasks, the interchangeable lenses can be compatible depending on the camera makers.

These digital camera lenses are available in a wide variety of classifications. They are classified according to focal length and aperture. There�s the macro lens, the zoom lens, the telephoto lens, the wide angle lens, and the normal and fixed focal length lens. Within the zoom classifications, there is the optical zoom and the digital zoom. Digital zooms are of the new technology, do not use a lens to zoom in, and do not really have the capabilities of the zoom lens.

All these different kinds of digital camera lenses have their own niche. Macro lenses are used in close up photography. Zoom lenses are for taking action shots and photojournalism. Telephoto lenses are best used in portrait photography. Wide angle lenses are used in landscape and indoor photography. Normal lenses are the basic lenses and can be used for full length portraits.
