Point & Shoot
Point & shoot cameras are the most user friendly types. Thus more people use this type than any other type of camera. They are made of simple and compact design and are even called “compact cameras.” With this type of camera, there is no need to adjust settings. There is no need to think of aperture and shutter speed and f/stops and flash settings. All one has to do is point the camera at the object you want to capture and click, or shoot.
This is because a point & shoot camera has a fixed aperture, a built in auto focus, and automatic settings. There are no complicated knobs and switches as there are in SLR’s. This is why the SLR is for professionals and this one is for the amateur photographer. This type of camera is mainly used for taking snapshots. Photos are daily recordings of ordinary lives, or birthdays, gatherings, and other celebrations taken by just about anyone who can hold the camera and press down on the shutter.
This is not to say that this type of camera has been left behind the times. They are now digitalized and come in sleek packages. A point & shoot nowadays offer additional functions like zoom, image stabilization, LCD screens, and video modes. They carry the intrinsic properties of digital cameras, in which the photos can be immediately downloaded on a computer for instant sharing. The photos can optionally be printed on photographic paper just like in the old days of photography.
