Tripods, monopods are an important camera accessory for the professional photographer. It allows for manipulations and techniques in exposure, shutter speeds and low or existing light. It is well utilized in the fields of portrait photography, landscape photography, wildlife and nature photography, and still-life photography.  

The 3 tripod types are the mini tripod, the compact tripod, and the full sized tripod.
The mini tripod is also called a table top tripod. It is compact and lightweight, and it is an option if carrying heavy gear is not for you.
The compact tripod is a lighter version of the full-sized tripod. It is made of a lightweight material and can be folded for storage and packing.
The full sized tripod is the one for professional photographers with heavy camera equipment. A stable and heavy duty construction allows this kind of tripod to support the long zoom lenses of the serious photographer.   
 
There are only two major components in the construction of tripods. These are the leg set and the head. Available tripod leg sets are made out of wood, aluminum, or carbon fiber. Tripod heads, on the other hand, are available in two separate kinds of mechanisms: the ball and socket type, and the pan and tilt type. These allow for different kinds of movements while the camera is attached to the tripod, and the choice is up to you. There is also the choice of a removable of a fixed tripod head.

The main thing to consider when choosing tripods, monopods for your camera is stability, height, and weight. Not to mention the price.
